Entertainment Software Association Backing Politicians and Candidates Empty Entertainment Software Association Backing Politicians and Candidates

Whenever politics and video games mix, it’s usually because some politician is hoping to make a name for themselves by bashing video games and trying to pass some absurd legislation. Not so in the case of the recent efforts from the Entertainment Software Association. The ESA has already approved the creation of a political action committee, which should be fully operational by the end of March. The PAC is already poised to donate $50,000 to $100,000 to political candidates this year, which is about as much that gets donated by similar organizations representing film and music. The ESA will also be getting the 100,000 people in their Video Game Voters Network more involved. Chief executive for the ESA, Michael D. Galagher said:

“If I can walk into the office of a member of Congress and tell them we have 20,000 voters in their state who are already signed up to write letters and act based on game-related issues that concern them, that’s powerful.”

Nice to see some positive news concerning video games and politics for a change. I’m interested in seeing what their criteria is for donating to candidates. Hopefully, Mitt Romney isn’t on their list.
