11.0.2 What type of PvP will World of Warcraft offer? (7 comments)

Blizzard knows that the player vs. player (PvP) option is very important to many gamers. Therefore, they plan to incorporate a form of player conflict into the World of Warcraft. However, players who do not wish to be participate in PvP combat will not be required to do so. The PvP system will be incorporated in a consensual way that will be fun for those who wish to take part in this form of combat. Announcements regarding PvP options in the World of Warcraft will be announced in the months ahead.

There will be 2 server types available at release. The first is the "Normal" ruleset and allows only consentual PvP. The "Alliance Vs. Horde" server is a bit more PvP centric.

11.0.3 How will the different servers affect PvP combat? (2 comments)

Normal Ruleset Servers:

PvP on the "Normal" servers will be strictly consentual. Players will be able to participate in PvP by either manually activating their PvP switch (by typing /pvp), attacking an enemy that is currently PvP active, entering a PvP Battle Ground instance or entering an opposing factions home city.

Alliance Vs. Horde Ruleset Servers:

PvP on the AvH servers occurs much more frequently than on the normal servers. Zones on the AvH servers are labeled either Alliance / Horde Territority or Contested Territority. By default the opposing faction becomes attackable once they enter the other side's "Territority" while any players in their home territority are not attackable by the enemy unless their PvP switch is active.

11.0.4 Will players be forced to take part in PvP through normal gameplay? (14 comments)

No. Blizzard feels that PvP should be consensual. On the Normal Servers, players must enter a designated PvP region or accept a duel in order to be susceptible to PvP combat.

11.0.5 What are the benefits of PvP? (15 comments)

Prestige and honor for starters, not too mention PvP specific rewards such as: Ability to enter new battlegrounds, titles, unique quests only available in battle ground zones, unique equipment only available in battle ground zones and to players with a certain amount of prestige.

Blizard is always looking for additional ways to encourage players to take part in the PvP experience. New rewards may be added in the future.

11.0.6 Will there be level requirements for PvP battles? (614 comments)

Currently players lose prestige points for killing (ganking) lower level players. Eventually if enough prestige is lost, they will become KOS to their own faction and be attackable by everyone in game. Aside from trying to discourage low level ganking, there is no hardcoded level limit on PvP. Battlegrounds may have a hardcoded player limit, however they are not implemented yet and information is scarce.

Currently the plan is to allow players on the "Normal Ruleset" server to have both Alliance and Horde characters on the same server. Players on the "Alliance vs. Horde" servers will have to choose one faction per server.

11.0.9 Will players be able to trade or group with members of the opposite faction? (2 comments)

No cross faction trading, grouping or guilding is allowed.

Players on both the "Normal" and "AvH" servers are able to enter the opposing factions cities. They will be attackable on sight by both players and guards.
