Flavor of the Month, Ward Against Foes

We played about 8 GvG battles last night in Amazon Basin and nearly every team was packing Ward Against Foes. There were 2 types of teams using it: Gankers and regular teams.

Ward Against Foes (Spell) You create a Ward Against Foes at your current location. For 8..18 seconds, foes in this area move 50% slower. 10 energy / 1 sec. cast time / 20 sec. recharge time.

The Gankers (i.e. teams that rush straight for your Guild Lord and then quit after 2 minutes if they are unsuccessful) were using Charge + Ward Against Foes. They would charge straight towards our Guildlord droping wards as they went. If the map had gates, they brought their guild thief. They would rush right past us and slow our retreat by dropping Ward Against Foes every few paces. Very Frustrating! We went 2-2 against this type of guild.

With PvP Xtreme Weekend going on, the Gank Squads are out in force, trying to collect bonus faction.

The regular teams probably started using Ward Against Foes themselves to counter Gankers and benefited greatly. They would drop wards in the battle area next to the flag stand. Their team was able to run circles around us, retreating quickly when wounded or running down their targets.

I don't know if Ward Against Foes (with its current quick cast, long duration, low energy cost) should be considered a broken spell. It is not an enchantment or hex, so it can't be removed. It has a very large AOE. Two options are to interupt the caster (unlikely with 2-3 ele's using it and a 1 second cast time) or to jump on the bandwagon and use it too.

One other option could be a Muddy Terrain Spirit which slows everyone 10% and overrides and speed buffs or debuffs.

It will be interesting to see how this evolves. It seems that Elementalists are switching to Earth Magic after the nerf to Chain Lightning, so I expect Ward Against Foes to continue to grow.
