Basin Builds for Pick-up Play, Aid to Ad Hoc GvG Planning Empty Basin Builds for Pick-up Play, Aid to Ad Hoc GvG Planning

The Poll for Ad hoc Euro GvG shows that ad hoc Euro-based GvG is theoretically viable in that there are at least 13 people with a strong interest in GvG during these times, and at least 15 people who could be available if it were likely that GvG would occur. Furthermore, at least 10 people indicated that they'd be willing to lead.

The next major obstacle to ad hoc GvG is organizing the team skills. On a bad day, this can take well over an hour. During this time, at least one player finds he or she has to leave--and that means that the team has to find someone else to fill in. The process of organizing skills repeats.

Obviously, it is to everyone's advantage to point to a build template, saying "let's use Basin Balanced Build #1" or "let's use Basin Basic Gimmick Build #4". Players can easily look up the build (which could be indexed in a pinned thread on this forum) and make their characters. The result would be ad hoc GvG that is truly spontaneous--not ad hoc GvG that takes 90 minutes to organize.

What is an ad hoc build and how does it differ from something like the "Popular Build of the Week"?

An ad hoc build is loose. It allows for significant skill swapping and substitutions, but also offers suggestions for what can be swapped out. If there's a call for ad hoc GvG, then the call can also say which build is used and what roles are needed. When someone says s/he doesn't have all the unlocks, the GvGers can point to the alternate skills.

At the same time, even though the ad hoc build will offer players some flexibility in terms of unlocks, it also offers the leader some sort of basic sense of team strengths. The leader knows what snares and interrupts are available, whether the offense is spike or pressure, and who has a hard res v. a signet.

So, here's the next challenge to ad hoc GvG--Basic Builds.

Let's see the templates.

Edit: A template for easy indexing:

Bunnz's Balanced Build. This could ultimately be split into its own thread. http://www.theamazonbasin.com/gw/forums/index.php?showtopic=6076
